The Council on Higher Education (CHE) and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) are inviting nominations for individuals to join the Community of Practice (CoP) for the Management of Higher Education Qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). This is an exciting opportunity for experts in higher education to contribute to the enhancement and implementation of the Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Framework (HEQSF).

As outlined in the Joint Communiqué 4 of 2024, the CHE and SAQA have initiated a comprehensive process for the re-registration of HEQSF-aligned qualifications set to expire on 30 June 2024. This initiative involves a joint evaluation of approximately 3,500 qualifications to ensure compliance with the HEQSF and address concerns regarding the proliferation of qualifications on the NQF.

The Role of the Community of Practice

The Community of Practice will play a crucial role in supporting the CHE and SAQA's efforts by:

  • Evaluating qualifications against SAQA’s Policy and Criteria for Registration.
  • Ensuring compliance with the HEQSF, including the proper use of designators.
  • Addressing issues related to the proliferation of qualifications.
  • Supporting the Management of the HEQSF (MHEQSF) Directorate in evaluating requests for changes to existing programs.

Call for Nominations

We are seeking individuals with expertise in curriculum design within the context of the HEQSF and/or internal quality assurance processes related to program design, review, and renewal. If you know someone who fits this profile, we encourage you to nominate them.

Nomination Requirements:

  • A letter from the nominator.
  • A comprehensive CV of the nominee.
  • A letter from the nominee indicating their acceptance of the nomination.
